Famous Bathurst 1000 Winners And The Model Cars That Commemorate Them

Car Models

The Bathurst 1000, Australia's Super-Touring Car race, is held each October at the Mount Panorama Circuit, Bathurst - about 200 km west of Sydney. Since 1963, Australia's best touring car drivers have faced off in what has become the country's most prestigious motor racing event.

The top competitors in today's Supercars Championship compete for more than just local pride. In addition to cementing their legacies as some of the best touring car drivers in Australian history, they vie for a place on Mount Panorama's revered winner's list and a chance to drive away with one of the most famous trophies in all of motorsports - The Peter Brock Trophy.

For fans of this race, getting their hands on a replica of the winning supercars is more than a dream come true; it's a chance to own an iconic piece of racing history and enhance a diecast car collection.

Check out some of Bathurst 1000 most famous winners and the cars that are available for purchase as diecast replicas.

Peter Brock - BMW E30 M3

Peter Brock is the most famous name in Australian motor racing. However, it's his nickname "King of the Mountain" that is forever associated with the Bathurst 1000.

Brock is a 9-time winner of The Bathurst 1000 and established himself as an icon for drivers throughout Australia by winning the race three consecutive times from 1978 to 1980. His first victory at Bathurst put Brock on the map.

The BMW M30 E3 Brock Drove in 1988 to win the tournament is one of the most iconic race cars in the history of Mount Panorama and is available as a diecast replica, most commonly in a 1:32 scale. A model of the famous 1988 BMW M30 E3 is available right here at Car Models of Braidwood.

Larry Perkins - Holden VR Commodore

Larry Perkins is another Bathurst legend, having won it five times (1981, 1982, 1984, 1988 and 1991) with different makes and two different manufacturers (Ford and Holden). In his first victory with Brock, he was a co-driver but won the race outright from 1984 to 1991.

In 1995, Larry Perkins drove a Holden VR Commodore to win the race with teammate Russell Ingall. Diecast replicas of this iconic Australian carmaker are made by Classic Carlectables. A very high-quality brand, Classic Carlectables is well represented at our CMoB shop – including a 1:18 scale model of the Holden VR Commodore that Perkins & Ingall drove to victory in 1995.

Allan Moffat - Ford XW GTHO

The 70s was the golden age of the Ford Falcon GTHO, and this iconic car was especially dominant at Bathurst in 1970 and 1971, with Moffat driving to victory both years. He is one of just two drivers who drove the Falcon GTHO to win Bathurst 1000 (along with Colin Bond). This triumph helped secure "Moff" his legendary status in the history of Australian motor racing.

A diecast replica of this 1970 Bathurst winner is available in a 1:32 scale. The diecast manufacturer for this iconic car, Dda, is known for creating the most accurate replicas of historic Australian racing cars. In addition to the Ford XW GTHO, they also produce Moffat's Falcon XY GTHO Phase 3 and Allan Moffat's Mazda RX-3.

Shane van Gisbergen - Holden ZB Commodore

The reigning champion of the Bathurst 1000 is 32-year-old New Zealander Shane van Gisbergen, who drove a Holden ZB Commodore. After building an impressive list of accolades in various racing leagues worldwide, Van Gisbergen decided to come to Australia and become a Supercars driver.

After joining the Triple 8 Race Engineering team, Van Gisbergen began his journey at the Mount Panorama Circuit in 2016 and has been a fierce competitor ever since.

Fans of Shane and the Bathurst 1000 can purchase a diecast replica of the Holden ZB Commodore in a 1:18 scale with exquisite and highly detailed exterior paint, decal, and interior. Made by Classic Carlectables, the 2020 winning Holden ZB Commodore replica is another example of the industry-leading skills of this model car maker.
